Rev. Mr. John Meyerhofer

Theology III
St. Charles Borromeo Seminary
St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA
Our Lady of Hope Parish

What did you do prior to entering seminary?

I was a Ph.D. Student and graduate assistant at University of Akron

What influenced your decision to apply for seminary entrance?

I felt a consistent desire for something more, and when I worked with priests or served Mass my heart would stir a little more.

Why do you want to be a priest?

I am inspired by the example of so many young priests I know to give my life wholly and unreservedly to helping others.

What are your favorite pastimes?

I greatly enjoy reading, especially science fiction or mystery books. I also love being outside in nature for walks, etc.

What is your favorite quote?

"Hear me and understand well, my little son, that nothing should frighten or grieve you. Let not your heart be disturbed. Do not fear that sickness, nor any other sickness or anguish. Am I not here, who is your Mother? Are you not under my protection? Am I not your health? Are you not happily within my fold? What else do you wish? Do not grieve nor be disturbed by anything." -Our Lady to St. Juan Diego

Who is your favorite Saint and why?

St. Therese of Lisieux, her simplicity and forthrightness in her writings speaks to me in a special way.

What advice would you give to a young man thinking about the seminary?

Take a small step and see where it leads you. You'll never reach a satisfying decision by doing nothing.

Are there any other facts about yourself that people might find interesting?

I once put on a magic show at a hospital for the nurses while I was staying there.
