ARLINGTON, Va. – Saint Ann Catholic School students have a long tradition of
putting Christ’s words into action by caring for the poor and marginalized. This
Lent, they are preparing sandwiches for Bailey’s Crossroads Community Shelter. From
March 7 through April 4, two grades will be assigned a Thursday after school to
make the sandwiches. One class will bring sandwich meat and the other bread.
With the help of Saint Ann families’ generosity, the students will prepare up
to 100 sandwiches for delivery.

March 28 – 5th & 3rd Grade; Thursday,
April 4 – 6th Grade
Fr. Mel Portula, pastor at Saint Ann Catholic Church, says
that, throughout the year, students volunteer to support charities such as
Borromeo Housing, Catholic Charities, AFAC, and Saint Martin de Porres Senior
Center. “Saint Ann students are learning and forming their consciences to be
responsive to the needs around them as a way of giving glory to God and,
therefore, becoming the best version of themselves God wants to be,” he said.
